[[대속죄일 규례 :: 일곱째 달 그달 십일]] @아론 ....준비하는 속죄제물은 수송아지, 번제물은 숫양., ....(속죄제는) 물로 씻고, 거룩한 옷(성의 ::세마포 고의(속바지), 세마포 속옷, 세마포 띠, 세마포 관)를 착용하고 진행. (번제는) 대제사장 의복으로 갈아 입은 후 진행 [[속죄제]] 1>그 자신을(그와 자기 집안 위함) 위한 속죄제의 수송아지 : 번제단 위의 불을 향로에 채운다음 두손 가득히 채워 성소 분향단에 나아가 향기로운 향을 향로에 담고 븐향하여 향연으로 속죄소를 가림. -->수송아지 피를 가져다가 (((속죄소 동쪽(위)에 뿌리고, 속죄소 앞에 일곱번 뿌림 -->번제단 네 귀퉁이 뿔들에 바름 + 번제단 위에 일곱번 피 뿌림))) 2>백성을 위한(=지성소와 회막을 위한 속죄) 속죄제 염소와 아사셀 염소 준비하여 회막문 여호와 앞에 둔 후, 속죄제 염소를 잡아서 위와 같이 ((( )))반복함 --->살아 있는 염소에 아론은 두 손을 얹어서 안수(불의와 범한 죄를 모두 아뢰고 전가함의) 후, 미리 정한 사람에게 맡겨서, 인적 없는 황무지 광야로 보냄. [[번제]] 3>아론은 회막에 들어가서 지성소에 들어갈 때 입었던 세마포 옷을 벗어서 거기 두고, 거룩한 곳에서 물로 몸을 씻고 자기 옷(대제사장의 의복)을 입고 나와서 자기의 번제((숫양))와 백성의 번제((숫양))를 드림(이 또한 속죄임) 속죄제물의 기름을 제단에서 불사를 것. (이제, 속죄제 수송아지와 속죄제 염소의 그 가즉과 똥을 밖으로 내다가 불사름, 불 사른 자는 그의 옷을 빨고 물로 몸을 씻은 후 진영으로 들어감.
===속죄일 1. 아론의 두 아들이 여호와 앞에 나아가다가 죽은 후에 여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하시니라 2. 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 네 형 아론에게 이르라 성소의 휘장 안 법궤 위 속죄소 앞에 아무 때나 들어오지 말라 그리하여 죽지 않도록 하라 이는 내가 구름 가운데에서 속죄소 위에 나타남이니라 3. 아론이 성소에 들어오려면 수송아지를 속죄제물로 삼고 숫양을 번제물로 삼고 4. 거룩한 세마포 속옷을 입으며 세마포 속바지를 몸에 입고 세마포 띠를 띠며 세마포 관을 쓸지니 이것들은 거룩한 옷이라 물로 그의 몸을 씻고 입을 것이며 5. 이스라엘 자손의 회중에게서 속죄제물로 삼기 위하여 숫염소 두 마리와 번제물로 삼기 위하여 숫양 한 마리를 가져갈지니라 6. ○아론은 자기를 위한 속죄제의 수송아지를 드리되 자기와 집안을 위하여 속죄하고 7. 또 그 두 염소를 가지고 회막 문 여호와 앞에 두고 8. 두 염소를 위하여 제비 뽑되 한 제비는 여호와를 위하고 한 제비는 아사셀을 위하여 할지며 9. 아론은 여호와를 위하여 제비 뽑은 염소를 속죄제로 드리고 10. 아사셀을 위하여 제비 뽑은 염소는 산 채로 여호와 앞에 두었다가 그것으로 속죄하고 아사셀을 위하여 광야로 보낼지니라 11. ○아론은 자기를 위한 속죄제의 수송아지를 드리되 자기와 집안을 위하여 속죄하고 자기를 위한 그 속죄제 수송아지를 잡고 12. 향로를 가져다가 여호와 앞 제단 위에서 피운 불을 그것에 채우고 또 곱게 간 향기로운 향을 두 손에 채워 가지고 휘장 안에 들어가서 13. 여호와 앞에서 분향하여 향연으로 증거궤 위 속죄소를 가리게 할지니 그리하면 그가 죽지 아니할 것이며 14. 그는 또 수송아지의 피를 가져다가 손가락으로 속죄소 동쪽에 뿌리고 또 손가락으로 그 피를 속죄소 앞에 일곱 번 뿌릴 것이며 15. 또 백성을 위한 속죄제 염소를 잡아 그 피를 가지고 휘장 안에 들어가서 그 수송아지 피로 행함 같이 그 피로 행하여 속죄소 위와 속죄소 앞에 뿌릴지니 16. 곧 이스라엘 자손의 부정과 그들이 범한 모든 죄로 말미암아 지성소를 위하여 속죄하고 또 그들의 부정한 중에 있는 회막을 위하여 그같이 할 것이요 17. 그가 지성소에 속죄하러 들어가서 자기와 그의 집안과 이스라엘 온 회중을 위하여 속죄하고 나오기까지는 누구든지 회막에 있지 못할 것이며 18. 그는 여호와 앞 제단으로 나와서 그것을 위하여 속죄할지니 곧 그 수송아지의 피와 염소의 피를 가져다가 제단 귀퉁이 뿔들에 바르고 19. 또 손가락으로 그 피를 그 위에 일곱 번 뿌려 이스라엘 자손의 부정에서 제단을 성결하게 할 것이요 20. 그 지성소와 회막과 제단을 위하여 속죄하기를 마친 후에 살아 있는 염소를 드리되 21. 아론은 그의 두 손으로 살아 있는 염소의 머리에 안수하여 이스라엘 자손의 모든 불의와 그 범한 모든 죄를 아뢰고 그 죄를 염소의 머리에 두어 미리 정한 사람에게 맡겨 광야로 보낼지니 22. 염소가 그들의 모든 불의를 지고 접근하기 어려운 땅에 이르거든 그는 그 염소(아사셀 염소)를 광야에 놓을지니라 23. ○아론은 회막에 들어가서 지성소에 들어갈 때에 입었던 세마포 옷을 벗어 거기 두고 24. 거룩한 곳에서 물로 그의 몸을 씻고 자기 옷을 입고 나와서 자기의 번제와 백성의 번제를 드려 자기와 백성을 위하여 속죄하고 25. 속죄제물의 기름을 제단에서 불사를 것이요 26. 염소를 아사셀에게 보낸 자는 그의 옷을 빨고 물로 그의 몸을 씻은 후에 진영에 들어갈 것이며 27. 속죄제 수송아지와 속죄제 염소의 피를 성소로 들여다가 속죄하였은즉 그 가죽과 고기와 똥을 밖으로 내다가 불사를 것이요 28. 불사른 자는 그의 옷을 빨고 물로 그의 몸을 씻은 후에 진영에 들어갈지니라 29. ○너희는 영원히 이 규례를 지킬지니라 일곱째 달 곧 그 달 십일(대속죄일)에 너희는 스스로 괴롭게 하고 아무 일도 하지 말되 본토인이든지 너희 중에 거류하는 거류민이든지 그리하라 30. 이 날에 너희를 위하여 속죄하여 너희를 정결하게 하리니 너희의 모든 죄에서 너희가 여호와 앞에 정결하리라 31. 이는 너희에게 안식일 중의 안식일인즉 너희는 스스로 괴롭게 할지니 영원히 지킬 규례라 32. 기름 부음을 받고 위임되어 자기의 아버지를 대신하여 제사장의 직분을 행하는 제사장은 속죄하되 세마포 옷 곧 거룩한 옷을 입고 33. 지성소를 속죄하며 회막과 제단을 속죄하고 또 제사장들과 백성의 회중을 위하여 속죄할지니 34. 이는 너희가 영원히 지킬 규례라 이스라엘 자손의 모든 레올라)) בְּזֹ֛את יָבֹ֥א אַהֲרֹ֖ן אֶל־הַקֹּ֑דֶשׁ בְּפַ֧ר בֶּן־בָּקָ֛ר לְחַטָּ֖את וְאַ֥יִל לְעֹלָֽה׃ ==4. 거룩한 세마포 속옷을 입으며 세마포 속바지를 몸에 입고 세마포 띠를 띠며 세마포 관을 쓸지니 이것들은 거룩한 옷이라 물로 그의 몸을 씻고 입을 것이며 ((케토넽 바드 코데쉬 일바쉬 우미크네세 바드 이흐우 알 베사로 우베압네트 바드 야흐골 우베미츠네펱 바드 이츠노프 비그데 코데쉬 헴 위라하츠 밤마임 엩 베사로 우레베솸)) כְּתֹֽנֶת־בַּ֨ד קֹ֜דֶשׁ יִלְבָּ֗שׁ וּמִֽכְנְסֵי־בַד֮ יִהְי֣וּ עַל־בְּשָׂרוֹ֒ וּבְאַבְנֵ֥ט בַּד֙ יַחְגֹּ֔ר וּבְמִצְנֶ֥פֶת בַּ֖ד יִצְנֹ֑ף בִּגְדֵי־קֹ֣דֶשׁ הֵ֔ם וְרָחַ֥ץ בַּמַּ֛יִם אֶת־בְּשָׂר֖וֹ וּלְבֵשָֽׁם׃ ==5. 이스라엘 자손의 회중에게서 속죄제물로 삼기 위하여 숫염소 두 마리와 번제물로 삼기 위하여 숫양 한 마리를 가져갈지니라 ((우메엩 아다트 베네이 이스라엘 잌카흐 쉐네 세이레 잊짐 레핱타트 웨아일 에하드 레올라)) וּמֵאֵ֗ת עֲדַת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל יִקַּ֛ח שְׁנֵֽי־שְׂעִירֵ֥י עִזִּ֖ים לְחַטָּ֑את וְאַ֥יִל אֶחָ֖ד לְעֹלָֽה׃ ==6. 아론은 자기를 위한 속죄제의 수송아지를 드리되 자기와 집안을 위하여 속죄하고 ((웨히크리브 아하론 엩 팔 하하타트 아쉘 로 웨키펠 바아도 우베아드 베토)) וְהִקְרִ֧יב אַהֲרֹ֛ן אֶת־פַּ֥ר הַחַטָּ֖את אֲשֶׁר־ל֑וֹ וְכִפֶּ֥ר בַּעֲד֖וֹ וּבְעַ֥ד בֵּיתֽוֹ׃ ==7. 또 그 두 염소를 가지고 회막 문 여호와 앞에 두고 ((웨라카흐 엩 쉬네 핫세이림 웨헤에미드 오탐 리페네 아도나이 페타흐 오헬 모에드)) וְלָקַ֖ח אֶת־שְׁנֵ֣י הַשְּׂעִירִ֑ם וְהֶעֱמִ֤יד אֹתָם֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה פֶּ֖תַח אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵֽד׃ ==8. 두 염소를 위하여 제비 뽑되 한 제비는 여호와를 위하고 한 제비는 아사셀을 위하여 할지며 ((웨나탄 아하론 알 쉬네 핫세이림 고랄로트 고랄 에하드 아도나이 웨고랄 에하드 라아자젤)) וְנָתַ֧ן אַהֲרֹ֛ן עַל־שְׁנֵ֥י הַשְּׂעִירִ֖ם גּוֹרָל֑וֹת גּוֹרָ֤ל אֶחָד֙ לַיהוָ֔ה וְגוֹרָ֥ל אֶחָ֖ד לַעֲזָאזֵֽל׃ ==9. 아론은 여호와를 위하여 제비 뽑은 염소를 속죄제로 드리고 ((웨히크리브 아하론 엩 핫사일 아쉘 알라 알라우 하고랄 아도나이 웨아사후 핱타트)) וְהִקְרִ֤יב אַהֲרֹן֙ אֶת־הַשָּׂעִ֔יר אֲשֶׁ֨ר עָלָ֥ה עָלָ֛יו הַגּוֹרָ֖ל לַיהוָ֑ה וְעָשָׂ֖הוּ חַטָּֽאת׃ ==10. 아사셀을 위하여 제비 뽑은 염소는 산 채로 여호와 앞에 두었다가 그것으로 속죄하고 아사셀을 위하여 광야로 보낼지니라 ((웨핫사일 아쉘 알라 알라우 하고랄 הַמִּדְבָּֽרָה׃ ==11. 아론은 자기를 위한 속죄제의 수송아지를 드리되 자기와 집안을 위하여 속죄하고 자기를 위한 그 속죄제 수송아지를 잡고 ((웨히크리브 아하론 엩 팔 하하타트 아쉘 로 쉐키펠 바아도 우베아드 베토 웨솨하트 엩 팔 하하타트 아쉘 로)) וְהִקְרִ֨יב אַהֲרֹ֜ן אֶת־פַּ֤ר הַֽחַטָּאת֙ אֲשֶׁר־ל֔וֹ וְכִפֶּ֥ר בַּֽעֲד֖וֹ וּבְעַ֣ד בֵּית֑וֹ וְשָׁחַ֛ט אֶת־פַּ֥ר הַֽחַטָּ֖את אֲשֶׁר־לֽוֹ׃ ==12. 향로를 가져다가 여호와 앞 제단 위에서 피운 불을 그것에 채우고 또 곱게 간 향기로운 향을 두 손에 채워 가지고 휘장 안에 들어가서 ((웨라카흐 메로 함마흐타 가할레 에쉬 메알 함미즈베아흐 밀리페네 아도나이 우메로 호프나우 케토렡 사밈 닼카 웨헤 비 미베트 라파로켙)) וְלָקַ֣ח מְלֹֽא־הַ֠מַּחְתָּה גַּֽחֲלֵי־אֵ֞שׁ מֵעַ֤ל הַמִּזְבֵּ֨חַ֙ מִלִּפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וּמְלֹ֣א חָפְנָ֔יו קְטֹ֥רֶת סַמִּ֖ים דַּקָּ֑ה וְהֵבִ֖יא מִבֵּ֥ית לַפָּרֹֽכֶת׃ ==13. 여호와 앞에서 분향하여 향연으로 증거궤 위 속죄소를 가리게 할지니 그리하면 그가 죽지 아니할 것이며 ((웨나탄 엩 하케토렡 알 하에쉬 리페네 아도나이 웨키사 아난 하케토렡 엩 하카포렡 아쉘 알 하에두트 웨로 야뭍)) וְנָתַ֧ן אֶֽת־הַקְּטֹ֛רֶת עַל־הָאֵ֖שׁ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְכִסָּ֣ה ׀ עֲנַ֣ן הַקְּטֹ֗רֶת אֶת־הַכַּפֹּ֛רֶת אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־הָעֵד֖וּת וְלֹ֥א יָמֽוּת׃ ==14. 그는 또 수송아지의 피를 가져다가 손가락으로 속죄소 동쪽에 뿌리고 또 손가락으로 그 피를 속죄소 앞에 일곱 번 뿌릴 것이며 ((웨라카흐 미담 하파르 웨히자 베에츠바오 알 페네이 하카포렡 케드마 웨리페네 하카포렡 야제 쉐바 페아밈 민 하담 베에츠바오)) וְלָקַח֙ מִדַּ֣ם הַפָּ֔ר וְהִזָּ֧ה בְאֶצְבָּע֛וֹ עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַכַּפֹּ֖רֶת קֵ֑דְמָה וְלִפְנֵ֣י הַכַּפֹּ֗רֶת יַזֶּ֧ה שֶֽׁבַע־פְּעָמִ֛ים מִן־הַדָּ֖ם בְּאֶצְבָּעֽוֹ׃ ==15. 또 백성을 위한 속죄제 염소를 잡아 그 피를 가지고 휘장 안에 들어가서 그 수송아지 피로 행함 같이 그 피로 행하여 속죄소 위와 속죄소 앞에 뿌릴지니 ((웨솨하트 엩 세일 하하타트 아쉘 라암 웨헤비 엩 다모 엘 미베트 라파로케트 웨아사 엩 다모 카아쉘 아사 레담 하파르 웨히자 오토 알 하카포렡 웨리페네 하카포렡)) וְשָׁחַ֞ט אֶת־שְׂעִ֤יר הַֽחַטָּאת֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר לָעָ֔ם וְהֵבִיא֙ אֶת־דָּמ֔וֹ אֶל־מִבֵּ֖ית לַפָּרֹ֑כֶת וְעָשָׂ֣ה אֶת־דָּמ֗וֹ כַּאֲשֶׁ֤ר עָשָׂה֙ לְדַ֣ם הַפָּ֔ר וְהִזָּ֥ה אֹת֛וֹ עַל־הַכַּפֹּ֖רֶת וְלִפְנֵ֥י הַכַּפֹּֽרֶת׃ ==16. 곧 이스라엘 자손의 부정과 그들이 범한 모든 죄로 말미암아 지성소를 위하여 속죄하고 또 그들의 부정한 중에 있는 회막을 위하여 그같이 할 것이요 ((웨키펠 알 하코데쉬 메투메오트 베네이 이스라엘 우미피쉬에헴 레콜 하토탐 웨켄 야아세 레오헬 모에드 하쇼켄 잍탐 베토크 투메오탐)) וְכִפֶּ֣ר עַל־הַקֹּ֗דֶשׁ מִטֻּמְאֹת֙ בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וּמִפִּשְׁעֵיהֶ֖ם לְכָל־חַטֹּאתָ֑ם וְכֵ֤ן יַעֲשֶׂה֙ לְאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֔ד הַשֹּׁכֵ֣ן אִתָּ֔ם בְּת֖וֹךְ טֻמְאֹתָֽם׃ ==17. 그가 지성소에 속죄하러 들어가서 자기와 그의 집안과 이스라엘 온 회중을 위하여 속죄하고 나오기까지는 누구든지 회막에 있지 못할 것이며 ((웨콜 아담 로 이흐예 베오헬 모에드 베보 레카펠 바코데쉬 아드 체토 웨키펠 바아도 우베아드 베토 우베아드 콜 케할 이스라엘)) וְכָל־אָדָ֞ם לֹא־יִהְיֶ֣ה ׀ בְּאֹ֣הֶל מוֹעֵ֗ד בְּבֹא֛וֹ לְכַפֵּ֥ר בַּקֹּ֖דֶשׁ עַד־צֵאת֑וֹ וְכִפֶּ֤ר בַּעֲדוֹ֙ וּבְעַ֣ד בֵּית֔וֹ וּבְעַ֖ד כָּל־קְהַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ==18. 그는 여호와 앞 제단으로 나와서 그것을 위하여 속죄할지니 곧 그 수송아지의 피와 염소의 피를 가져다가 제단 귀퉁이 뿔들에 바르고 ((웨아차 엘 함미즈베아흐 아쉘 리페네 아도나이 웨키펠 알라우 웨라카흐 미담 하파르 우미담 핫사일 웨나탄 알 칼노트 함미즈베아흐 사비브)) וְיָצָ֗א אֶל־הַמִּזְבֵּ֛חַ אֲשֶׁ֥ר לִפְנֵֽי־יְהוָ֖ה וְכִפֶּ֣ר עָלָ֑יו וְלָקַ֞ח מִדַּ֤ם הַפָּר֙ וּמִדַּ֣ם הַשָּׂעִ֔יר וְנָתַ֛ן עַל־קַרְנ֥וֹת הַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַ סָבִֽיב׃ ==19. 또 손가락으로 그 피를 그 위에 일곱 번 뿌려 이스라엘 자손의 부정에서 제단을 성결하게 할 것이요 ((웨히자 알라우 민 하담 베에츠바오 쉐바 페아밈 웨티하로 웨키데쇼 미투메오트 베네이 이스라엘)) וְהִזָּ֨ה עָלָ֧יו מִן־הַדָּ֛ם בְּאֶצְבָּע֖וֹ שֶׁ֣בַע פְּעָמִ֑ים וְטִהֲר֣וֹ וְקִדְּשׁ֔וֹ מִטֻּמְאֹ֖ת בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ ==20. 그 지성소와 회막과 제단을 위하여 속죄하기를 마친 후에 살아 있는 염소를 드리되 ((웨킬라 미카펠 엩 하코데쉬 웨엩 오헬 모에드 웨엩 함미즈베아흐 웨히크리브 엩 핫사일 헤하이)) וְכִלָּה֙ מִכַּפֵּ֣ר אֶת־הַקֹּ֔דֶשׁ וְאֶת־אֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵ֖ד וְאֶת־הַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַ וְהִקְרִ֖יב אֶת־הַשָּׂעִ֥יר הֶחָֽי׃ ==21. 아론은 그의 두 손으로 살아 있는 염소의 머리에 안수하여 이스라엘 자손의 모든 불의와 그 범한 모든 죄를 아뢰고 그 죄를 염소의 머리에 두어 미리 정한 사람에게 맡겨 광야로 보낼지니 ((웨사맠 아하론 엩 쉐테 야도 야다우 알 고쉬 핫사일 하하이 -------AMP.Lev.16. ===Law of Atonement 1 Then the Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron who had died when they [irreverently] approached the presence of the Lord. 2 The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron your brother that he [a]must not enter at any time into the Holy Place inside the veil (the Holy of Holies), before the [b]mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die, for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat. 3 Aaron [as high priest] shall enter the Holy Place in this way: with [the blood of] a young bull as a sin offering and [the blood of] a ram as a burnt offering. 4 He shall put on the holy linen tunic, and the linen undergarments shall be next to his body, and he shall be belted with the linen sash, and dressed with the linen turban (these are the holy garments). He shall bathe his body in water and put them on. 5 He shall take from the congregation of the Israelites [at their expense] two male goats as a sin offering and one ram as a burnt offering. 6 Then Aaron shall present the bull as the sin offering for himself, and make atonement for himself and for his house. 7 He shall take the two goats and present them before the Lord at the doorway of the Tent of Meeting. 8 Aaron shall cast lots for the two goats—one lot for the Lord, the other lot for the [c]scapegoat. 9 Then Aaron shall bring the goat on which the Lord’s lot fell and offer it as a sin offering. 10 But the goat on which the lot fell for the scapegoat shall be presented alive before the Lord to make atonement on it; it shall be sent into the wilderness as the scapegoat. 11 “Aaron shall present the bull as the sin offering for himself and make atonement for himself and for his household (the other priests), and he shall kill the bull as the sin offering for himself. 12 He shall take a censer full of burning coals from the [bronze] altar before the Lord, and two handfuls of finely ground sweet incense, and bring it inside the veil [into the Most Holy Place], 13 and put the incense on the fire [in the censer] before the Lord, so that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is on [the ark of] the Testimony, otherwise he will die. 14 He shall take some of the bull’s blood and sprinkle it with his finger on the east side of the mercy seat; also in front of the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times. 15 “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for [the sins of] the people and bring its blood within the veil [into the Most Holy Place] and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat. 16 So he shall make atonement for the Holy Place (Holy of Holies) because of the uncleanness and transgressions of the Israelites, for all their sins. He shall also do this for the Tent of Meeting which is among them in the midst of their uncleanness (impurities). 17 There shall be no person in the Tent of Meeting when the high priest goes in to make atonement in the Holy Place [within the veil] until he comes out, so that he may make atonement for himself (his own sins) and for his household and for all the congregation of Israel. 18 Then he shall go out to the altar [of burnt offering in the court] which is before the Lord and make atonement for it, and shall take some of the blood of the bull and of the goat and put it on the horns of the altar on all sides. 19 With his finger he shall sprinkle some of the blood on the altar of burnt offering seven times and cleanse it and consecrate it from the uncleanness of the Israelites. 20 “When he has finished atoning for the Holy Place and the Tent of Meeting and the altar, he shall present the live goat. 21 Then Aaron shall lay both of his hands on the head of the live goat, and confess over it all the wickedness of the sons of Israel and all their transgressions in regard to all their sins; and he shall lay them on the head of the goat [the scapegoat, the sin-bearer], and send it away into the wilderness by the hand of a man who is prepared [for the task]. 22 The goat shall carry on itself all their (the Israelites) wickedness, carrying them to a solitary (infertile) land; and he shall release the goat in the wilderness. 23 “Then Aaron shall come into the Tent of Meeting and take off the linen garments which he put on when he went into the Holy Place (Holy of Holies), and shall leave them there. 24 He shall bathe his body with water in a holy place and put on his clothes, and come out and offer his burnt offering and that of the people, and make atonement for himself and for the people. 25 And he shall offer up in smoke the fat of the sin offering on the altar. 26 The man who released the goat as the [sin-bearing] scapegoat shall wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may come into the camp. 27 The bull for the sin offering and the goat for the sin offering, whose blood was brought in to make atonement in the Holy Place (Holy of Holies), shall be taken outside the camp; their skins, their meat, and their waste shall be burned in the fire. 28 Then he who burns them shall wash his clothes and bathe his body with water, and afterward he may come into the camp. ===An Annual Atonement 29 “This shall be a permanent statute for you: in the seventh month (nearly October) on the tenth day of the month you shall [d]humble yourselves [by fasting] and not do any work, whether the native-born or the stranger who lives temporarily among you; 30 for it is on this day that atonement shall be made for you, to cleanse you; you will be clean from all your sins before the Lord. 31 It is a Sabbath of solemn rest for you, and you shall humble yourselves; it is a permanent statute. 32 So the priest who is anointed and ordained to serve and minister as priest in his father’s place shall make atonement: he shall wear the holy linen garments, 33 and make atonement for the Holy Sanctuary, and he shall make atonement for the Tent of Meeting, and for the altar [of burnt offering in the court]. He shall also make atonement for the priests and for all the people of the assembly. 34 This shall be a permanent statute for you, so that atonement may be made for the children of Israel for all their sins once a year.” So he did just as the Lord had commanded Moses. ===Footnotes Leviticus 16:2 The high priest was permitted to enter the Most Holy Place only once a year. The Day of Atonement was the most sacred of all the festivals and the prescribed purpose of this inclusive sacrifice was to atone for the sins of both the nation and the individual believer, and in this way reconcile God’s chosen people to Himself. Only by carefully following all of God’s instructions, could the high priest enter God’s presence and live. Leviticus 16:2 Lit propitiatory. Leviticus 16:8 Lit goat of removal, or else a name, Heb: Azazel. This goat’s release (v 10) symbolized the carrying away of Israel’s sin. Leviticus 16:29 It is assumed by many that humbling oneself is a reference to fasting, but if so, there is no reason to limit the idea to that. The rabbis taught that it was forbidden to eat, drink, wash, anoint oneself (with oil for the hair), put on footwear, or have marital relations. Fasting was defined as eating less than the volume of a large date and drinking less than a mouthful of liquid. ------------NASB 1. "Moreover, he shall take some of the blood of the bull and sprinkle [it] with his finger on the mercy seat on the east [side]; also in front of the mercy seat he shall sprinkle some of the blood with his finger seven times. 15. "Then he shall slaughter the goat of the sin offering which is for the people, and bring its blood inside the veil, and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, and sprinkle it on the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat. 16. "And he shall make atonement for the holy place, because of the impurities of the sons of Israel, and because of their transgressions, in regard to all their sins; and thus he shall do for the tent of meeting which abides with them in the midst of their impurities.
